Trey McBride injury update: Latest on Cardinals TE for Fantasy Football Week 5

Trey McBride is a key part of the Arizona Cardinals offense. The tight end is one of Kyler Murray's favorite targets and a decent option on third and fourth down plays.

Ahead of the Cardinals' Week 5 game against the San Francisco 49ers, let's take a look at Trey McBride's injury status.

Trey McBride's injury update

According to Arizona Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon on Monday, Trey McBride is in concussion protocol. The veteran tight end sustained a concussion during his team's Week 3 defeat to the Detroit Lions. He was not able to practice last week before the franchise ruled him out ahead of this past Sunday's matchup against the Washington Commanders. The Cardinals went on to lose the game.

“I would say yes, but he did a good job last week,” Gannon told reporters on Monday. “(He) wasn't able to play and we thought that was kind of the smart thing to do, obviously with how the protocol works, but it's just looking good.”

Elijah Higgins and Tip Reiman took tight-end reps in his place against the Commanders. However, it didn't go well for his franchise, as Higgins could only muster two catches for 12 receiving yards. Cardinals fans will hope that Trey McBride can return to action as soon as possible to give him a chance to feature against the 49ers.

Update: Trey McBride did not participate in Cardinals' practice on Friday, post the session the team put the tight end's status as questionable for the SNF game against San Francisco 49ers due to the ribs injury.

How to watch Cardinals vs. 49ers?

The Arizona Cardinals (1-3) are up against the San Francisco 49ers (2-2) in Week 5 of the 2024 NFL season.

Here's what you need to know about the game:

  • Date: Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024
  • Live stream: FuboTV and DAZN
  • Time: 4:05 p.m. ET
  • TV: FOX
  • Venue: Levi's Stadium

The Arizona Cardinals enter the game fresh off a demoralizing Week 3 loss to the Washington Commanders. The Commanders put up 42 points on the Cardinals, with Kyler Murray and Co. only able to muster 14 in response.

The game was never close, and this puts pressure on coach Jonathan Gannon to get a result in Week 5. However, it's not going to be easy as he's up against the NFC powerhouse, the San Francisco 49ers.

The 49ers enter this game fresh off a 30-13 win over the New England Patriots in Week 4. The 49ers ended their two-game losing streak and showed off their ability to grind out a result.

Up next for Kyle Shanahan's team is a home game against a tricky Arizona Cardinals unit. The 2024 beaten Super Bowl finalists must pay close attention to the Kyler Murray and Marvin Harrison Jr. connection to avoid a shock result in Week 5.
