Tua Tagovailoa's concussion earlier this season derailed the Miami Dolphins' plans for the year and they were hoping to get back on track against the Los Angeles Rams. Entering into this game, Miami was 2-6 and bottom of the AFC East. That is a poor return for a team that was supposed to compete for the division and make the playoffs in 2024.

Much of that has been due to their starting quarterback's absence for multiple weeks when they struggled to get the offense going. However, the results have not picked up since he returned. They lost against the Arizona Cardinals and followed that up with an improved performance against the Bills that ended in a defeat as well. They were in must-win territory to salvage their season and Tua Tagovailoa needed to be at his best to get that done. This is how he fared tonight.

Tua Tagovailoa came into this game looking to get his first win since coming back from injury. He started well enough as he led the Dolphins on an opening drive that led to a rushing touchdown to take a 7-0 lead.

However, he still showed some rustiness as the drives kept stalling thereafter in the first half. He kept underthrowing receivers even on short routes as it seemed that he was not on the same page as them. However, his biggest issues were turnovers.

First, he threw an interception that was picked off. More worryingly, as he tried to stop the return, he got kneed in his head.

The Rams were not playing well either as they coughed up a fumble straight away, which allowed Tua Tagovailoa to get the game back. But his struggles continued in the first half as he fumbled the ball to give it back to Los Angeles.

Luckily for Miami, they still went into halftime 10-6 ahead. Tagovailoa looked much more composed in the second half and came back strongly with a touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill. It was the wide receiver's first receiving touchdown since Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season.

That was the quarterback's best contribution going into the fourth quarter and he continued to be uneven going toward the final minutes of the game. However, he kept better care of the ball than in the first half and led them to two drives that yielded field goals. Except for the kneel-downs at the end to run out the clock, the visiting team got points on every drive they had in the second half.

Going into the two-minute warning, he led the Dolphins to a 23-12 lead, which ultimately proved to be enough for the victory. Miami is now 3-6 for the season and might be looking for a late resurgence for a Wild Card spot.

It was Tua Tagovailoa's first win too after returning from his concussion. The Miami Dolphins host the Las Vegas Raiders next at Hard Rock Stadium on Nov. 17.
