The most explosive wide receiver in the NFL, especially in modern times, is none other than Tyreek Hill. He is one of the fastest in the league today and his breathtaking speed has rightly earned him the nickname ‘Cheetah’. Hill, who was born on March 1, 1994, in Douglas, Georgia, was a track and field star in his early years. Attending Coffee High School in his birth city, Hill won both the 100 meters and 200 meters at the 2012 Georgia 5A state meet.
Hill first attended Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kansas where he played football along with running track in 2013. In 2014, Hill decided to attend Oklahoma State University for one year as he was released by the University following an arrest and guilty plea based on domestic violence. He was accepted by the University of West Alabama and played his final year of college for the Tigers football team.
Tyreek Hill Team
Hill is in his third season with the Miami Dolphins as of 2024, having been traded to the team in 2022 by the Kansas City Chiefs. At the time this trade was seen as a surprise move given that Hill is not only known for his speed and ability to get open but also for his catching skills which make him an elite receiver.
In exchange for the Cheetah, the Dolphins gave away a series of draft picks including both their first and second-round picks for 2022, two fourth-round picks, and a 2023 sixth-round pick. As you can see from this trade the value of Hill resulted in five draft picks out of which two of them were the all-important first and second-round picks. On the other hand, the Dolphins also got a talented and reliable receiver to potentially help get the team into the playoffs.
In the 2022 season, Hill started all 17 games catching 119 passes for 1,710 yards which are all his personal bests till now. He also had 7 touchdowns and was used sparingly in the run game as well. Last year, Hill went off to have another blistering campaign and was on target for the first-ever 2,000-yard regular season performance, but an ankle injury dashed those hopes. However, he still finished the 2023 season with almost 1,800 receiving yards, which made him league's receiving yards leader.
Tyreek Hill with the Kansas City Chiefs
Hill was selected in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round with the 165th overall pick. Several fans criticized the move and were not happy with the signing since, nevertheless, the Chiefs thoroughly vetted him and held a media conference after his signing.
For the first three years in Kansas City, Hill was used as a dual player with return duties along with his receiver role. Four out of six seasons with the Chiefs resulted in over 1,000 receiving yards and the 2019 season was the best of his career as he teamed up with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, and other playmakers on the offense and defense to go all the way claiming Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers.
Coming out of college in 2016, Tyreek Hill was not invited to participate in the NFL Combine due to his arrest which had taken place a year before. Still, that didn’t keep Hill from having a ball at his West Alabama Pro Day where no less than 20 teams were interested in his services. As he wasn’t invited to the combine, the biggest asset he had to showcase, which was the 40-yard dash, is not an official entry. However, it is reported that he has an unofficial time of 4.29 seconds.
