Tyreek Hill was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2016 NFL draft. However, Hill serves as the wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins as of 2024, and has been spectacular ever since he stepped foot in the NFL. While everybody knows him for playing great football, what most don’t know is his track achievements which immediately caught national attention. In the 2012 Georgia 5A state meet, the Dolphins wide receiver blew past everybody and almost made it seem too easy when it came to his competition. Hill continued to compete in larger events and he went to Orlando to compete in the Golden South Classic and almost set the high school record for 200 meters dash. He clocked his 40-yard dash at 4.29 seconds making him one of the fastest players ever in the NFL. USA Today had named Hill as an All-American in track and field.
He went on to play for the Oklahoma State football team but was kicked off the team because of legal issues with his former girlfriend. It all looked downhill for Hill but that is when West Alabama decided to take a chance on Hill. Head Coach Brett Gilliand decided to vet Hill and gave him a second chance and that was all Hill needed. John Dorcey took a chance with Hill and he was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs. After he signed the contract, Hill immediately became the fastest player in the league. His lightning-fast speed and quickness earned him the name ‘Cheetah’ and there is no doubting that name. In his very first season, Hill was named into the Pro Bowl and was an All-Pro. He has not looked back ever since as he went on to get pro bowl nods in each of his first 8 seasons. The 2023 receiving yards leader and Super Bowl LIV champion went from almost being undrafted, to a playmaker, to one of the best receivers that anyone has ever seen.
Tyreek Hill Draft
Hill was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs as the 165th pick in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL draft. After playing for three different colleges and struggling with off-the-field issues, no team wanted to take a chance on him. Hill was not even projected to be drafted into the NFL because of his character concerns surrounding his arrest in 2014 for domestic abuse.
Hill pleaded guilty to charges such as domestic assault and battery by strangulation counts and was sentenced to three years of conditional probation. However, Hill overcame all the negativity and continued to focus on school and football. Since joining the Miami Dolphins in 2022, Hill has gone on to receive more than 1,700 yards in each of his last two seasons.
