He was born on March 26, 1989, and was named the District 8-5A Defensive MVP in his senior year at DeSoto High School after recording 76 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and 6 sacks. Then he also participated in track and field events, specializing in the javelin throw, hurdle race and triple jump. The four-star recruit went to Texas A&M University in 2007–10.

Miller was drafted in the first round as the #2 pick by the Denver Broncos in the 2011 NFL Draft. He was selected for eight Pro Bowls and was named to the first team three times. He had amassed 110.5 career sacks during his time with Denver as of 2023, which is the highest in Broncos history. He was also named MVP of the Super Bowl 50. He played for the Broncos for ten years before being briefly moved to the Los Angeles Rams in 2021. In 2022, he inked a six-year, $120 million contract with the Buffalo Bills.
