The 10th pick in the 2017 NFL draft, the Texas Tech quarterback was confident from Day 1, despite starting out his career as a backup. Excited by the deal, the Chiefs QB took to X on July 7, 2020, and tweeted,

Patrick Mahomes thanks Chiefs fans
Mahomes had another message for the fans within the video, which showcased clips from the Chiefs’ successful 2020 season.
“Chiefs kingdom. You’ve been with me since the beginning, from rookie year to becoming a starter, to the unconventional, to doing whatever it takes to win, to showdowns. You helped me come back from injury. You helped us come back from deficits, multiple deficits. You helped us overcome adversity to become Super Bowl champs. And we’re staying together for a long time. We’re chasing a dynasty.”
Management rewarded Mahomes with a 10-year extension worth up to $503 million with performance bonuses. The deal ties Mahomes to Kansas City through the 2031 season.
Mahomes, Chiefs look to a hat trick of Super Bowls
The Chiefs have reached every AFC Championship game since Mahomes became a starter in 2018. They have also reached four Super Bowls, winning three of them. Mahomes' only loss at the Super Bowl came against Tampa Bay in 2021, courtesy of Tom Brady.
Mahomes is chasing history this season, as the Chiefs look to become the first team to win three Super Bowls in a row. They've had some close calls this season but look primed to lock up the No. 1 seed in the AFC with a 13-1 record heading into Week 16.
