The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets will face each other in Week 14 of the 2024 NFL season. Although both teams have a losing record, they are theoretically still in the playoff race.
However, the race is nearly run for the 3-9 Jets. While mathematically they can still make the postseason, that is unlikely. It is more probable that they will lose this game and be eliminated from playoff contention. A season that began with them being touted as potential Super Bowl winners with Aaron Rodgers leading the charge, has been nothing but an utter disappointment.
The Dolphins are not far behind in underachieving this year either. They have a 5-7 record and are on the outside looking in. It is more likely than not that they will miss out on the playoffs but they are not completely out yet. After nearly winning the AFC East in 2023, this year was a major letdown. Tua Tagovailoa's concussion and subsequent absence derailed their season and by the time he returned, Miami was already in a big hole.
The two AFC East teams will meet also knowing that they are not going to win the division as the Buffalo Bills already captured that. Under such circumstances, we look at how we expect the game to unfold.

Dolphins vs. Jets prediction
Even though these two teams are divisional rivals, they have not played each other all year. This would be the first time they meet this season before playing again in the final week.
The Jets, as woeful they have been, have still preserved a modicum of pride on the defensive side of the ball. They are the third-best unit in the NFL, allowing just 301.2 yards per game in total. The 174.9 yards per game that they allow is the second-best in the league. Therefore, the Dolphins will have to lean more into the rushing game if they are to win this matchup.
Miami itself has not done too badly on defense, allowing 311.3 yards in total per game. It does not bode well for New York given how much they have struggled offensively all year. With Breece Hall unlikely to feature in the game, the running game might suffer too.
We, therefore, expect a low-scoring affair. Since Tua Tagovailoa's return, the Dolphins have scored at least 23 points in each match except last week in the cold against the Packers. We expect that to be the baseline for them. The Jets played the Texans and scored 21 points in that game, and Houston has a defense closest to Miami's among the teams New York has faced in 2024. Based on that, our prediction is given below.
Prediction: Dolphins 23 - 21 Jets
Dolphins vs. Jets fantasy outlook
Tua Tagovailoa was statistically good in the match against the Packers even though it did not look like it. Coming back to warm weather in Miami, he should be considered. Jonnu Smith has some form in the last few weeks and he could be a sleeper pick for fantasy football managers.
On the Jets' side, Braelon Allen is expected to be the starting running back. As he looks to cement his position for next year, one could see him performing well in this game.
