The Super Bowl is an annual league championship game that is played between the winners of the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC). The Vince Lombardi Trophy is awarded to the winner of the Super Bowl. The first Super Bowl, or the AFL–NFL World Championship Game, was played on January 15, 1967, in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles, California.

As of February 7, 2025, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles will compete against each other in Super Bowl LIX of the 2024 NFL season on the second Sunday of February 2025. The ABC, Fox, NBC, and CBS are the broadcasters of the Super Bowl game. As of February 2025, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots of the American Football Conference have the most Super Bowl titles at six each. The Super Bowl is considered the second-largest event for the people of the United States food consumption.

Other names for the Super Bowl

The Super Bowl was originally known as the "Bowl Game" and was the Rose Bowl Game in Pasadena, California, in 1902. In January 1961, the first "World Playoff" was played between the AFL Houston Oilers and the NFL champion Green Bay Packers, where the Oilers became the champions. In 1966, the name "AFL–NFL Championship Game", was suggested by the league's owner but in mid-1966, the name "Super Bowl" was finalized.
