The Bert Bell Award is an annual accolade presented by the Maxwell Football Club, honoring the best player in the NFL. Named after former NFL commissioner and the founder of Maxwell Football Club, the award recognizes the most outstanding player in the league every season.

The award was first presented in 1959 and has since become one of the most prestigious honors in the NFL. The selection committee for the award is made up of NFL owners, broadcasters, franchise executives, team officials, and Maxwell Football Club members.

The Bert Bell Award selection criteria

Typically, a player's on-field performance during the NFL regular season is the primary criterion for being considered for the award. Various aspects of players' overall statistics that have contributed to their team's success are taken into consideration as well. The selection committee also takes into account the player's contribution to their team throughout the season. Players who have been instrumental in boosting their team's performance are viewed more favorably during the voting process.

Similar to other awards in the NFL, a player's conduct off the field is also considered. Players who have been involved in scandals or unethical behavior are typically not given any consideration. The Maxwell Football Club takes great care to ensure that the award maintains its longstanding reputation and dignity.
