What are the deepest positions in 2023 NFL Draft? Assessing best TE and RB prospects

NFL Combine
What are the deepest positions in 2023 NFL Draft?

The 2023 NFL draft is less than a month away, and all 32 teams are doing their due diligence ahead of the big day. The draft boards are up; the prospects are waiting, and fan bases are crossing their fingers. The gridiron has 11 critical positions, and players will be selected at each one.

However, two positions seem pretty deep with talent ahead of the 2023 NFL draft - the tight end and running back positions. Here, we take a look at the top three prospects in each position ahead of the April NFL draft.

Top three tight end prospects in 2023 NFL Draft class

With a mixture of pass-catching on the offense and run blocking on defense, here are the three best tight-end prospects for this year's draft, starting with the third-best:

#3 Luke Musgrave, Oregon State

Musgrave entered the 2021 season with just 14 career grabs for 160 combined yards on his resume but broke out in his third year on campus, setting a career-high with 22 passes for 304 yards and the first score of his college career.

Luke Musgrave's numbers might have been better, but he was splitting snaps with Teagan Quitoriano (19 catches for 214 yards and three scores), who was drafted in the fifth round a few months later by the Houston Texans.

Musgrave appeared poised for a genuinely dynamic 2022 season, hauling in 11 passes for 169 yards and another score in the season's first two games. However, he suffered a knee injury that abruptly ended his campaign.

He returned for extraordinary performances at the Senior Bowl and NFL Scouting Combine, tantalizing scouts with seemingly untapped potential.

2023 NFL Draft Projection: Late Second Round

#2 Dalton Kincaid, Utah

Dalton Kincaid started his college career with the University of San Diego, where he promptly dominated, scoring 11 touchdowns on just 24 receptions for 374 yards.

He was less efficient (but more productive) a year later, hauling in eight more scores but nearly doubling his catches (44) and more than accomplishing that feat with 834 receiving yards.

Utah convinced him to transfer for his remaining years of eligibility. Kincaid continued his playmaking for the back-to-back Pac-12 champs, catching 106 passes for 1,400 yards and 16 touchdowns in the last two seasons.

2023 NFL Draft Projection: First round

#1 Michael Mayer, Notre Dame

Michael Mayer led Notre Dame in receptions in his last two years, setting all-time Notre Dame records for tight ends with 180 receptions for 2,099 yards and 18 scores in three years.

With little else left to prove, Mayer gave up his remaining eligibility and entered the 2023 NFL u7, hauling in at least one reception in all 36 games of his college career.

2023 NFL Draft Projection: Early Second Round

Top three running back prospects in 2023 NFL Draft class

A top-notch running back can go a long way in assuring Super Bowl glory. Here are the top three running backs eligible for this year's draft. Like in the tight ends edition, we will start with the third-best.

#3 Zach Charbonnet, UCLA

Charbonnet is most effective in passing situations or when he can build momentum out of the backfield. He ran a 4.53 at the 40-yard dash in the NFL Combine.

His frame allows him to run through tacklers and pack a punch when picking up blitzing defenders. His biggest knock is his speed and acceleration, but he makes up for that with power. He would thrive in an offense that plays to his strength and doesn't expect him to be something he's not.

2023 NFL Draft Projection: Late Second Round

#2 Jahmyr Gibbs, Alabama

Gibbs runs light and fast and has the skills needed to make an impact in the league.

His more petite frame poses a challenge for blitz pickups and power running, but he could be used as a part of a running back tandem in a power/speed duo. He ran a blazing 4.36 in the 40-yard dash at the Combine, proving his ability to speed past defenders.

Gibbs played on a Pro-style offense in Alabama, so a jump to the NFL should be smooth. Moreover, he was the Crimson Tide's best receiver last year.

2023 NFL Draft Projection: Late First-Round Pick

#1 Bijan Robinson, Texas

Robinson is the consensus best available running back entering the 2023 NFL Draft.

Robinson is that guy and has the laurels to prove it. He ran a 4.46 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, showcasing his world-class speed and agility. A lot has been said about him, and it's time to see who get their hands on a generational prospect.
