Green Bay Packers star defensive back Jaire Alexander has been inactive since the team's Week 7 victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Alexander suffered a knee injury that resulted in a torn PCL in his right knee, keeping the cornerback sidelined ever since.

As the Packers kept him on the active roster, handling his injury on a week-by-week approach with the hope that he'd return this season, coach Matt LaFleur announced today that Alexander is done for the remainder of the season. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport tweeted:

"#Packers star CB Jaire Alexander, who has been dealing with a PCL tear and hasn’t played since Nov. 17, is likely out for the season, per coach Matt LaFleur. He’s set for surgery."

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, a source told him on Wednesday that Alexander underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Tuesday to help ease the pain and swelling as he still recovers from the injury.

In seven games played this season, Alexander had two interceptions, including a pick-six, 16 tackles, and a fumble recovery. In the last two seasons combined, Alexander has only played 14 of 34 regular-season games due to injuries to his knee, back, shoulder, and groin.

Alexander has been in the league for seven seasons and is a two-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro selection. He has 287 tackles, 1.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 12 interceptions, and 70 pass deflections.

What are the Green Bay Packers' playoff seeding scenarios?

The Green Bay Packers enter Week 18 with an 11-5 record. As good as their record is, they are in third place in the NFC North as both the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings hold 14-2 records.

The Packers have clinched at least the sixth or seventh seed. The loser of the Vikings-Lions game will clinch the fifth seed with their better record.

The Packers will get the sixth seed if they defeat the Chicago Bears and if the Washington Commanders lose to the Dallas Cowboys.

Washington owns the tiebreaker with Green Bay, so if the Packers lose or if Washington wins, Green Bay gets the seventh seed.

If Green Bay ends up as the seventh seed, they are set to face the Philadelphia Eagles, and if they finish as the sixth seed, they will either play the Los Angeles Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, or the Atlanta Falcons.
