What happened to James Cook? Everything we know about Bills RB's injury ahead of Fantasy Football Week 6

The Buffalo Bills will grace this week's Monday Night Football schedule alongside the New York Jets with both teams entering Week 6 in contrasting moods. The Bills slipped to 3-2 after a narrow loss to CJ Stroud's Houston Texans but are still top of the AFC East. The Jets, meanwhile, slipped to 2-3 after a loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London. The Jets offense was more of a mixed bag than most weeks.

Heading into Monday Night Football this week, a win for the Bills will extend their lead atop the AFC East. But before they can suit up in primetime, the Bills will have to address the status of their lead running back James Cook.

Cook went down with an injury against the Texans and popped up on the injury report this week. But before you panic about having him on your fantasy roster, here's everything you need to know about his injury.

What happened to James Cook?

On Thursday, Bills head coach addressed Cook's injury, saying:

“We’ll see where it goes. We’ll know a little bit more coming off of today and into tomorrow."

Replays of Cook's injury suggest he suffered a turf toe injury. The Bills' official injury report earlier on Friday confirms that Cook did suffer a toe injury.

Dr. Jesse Morse, who often reviews NFL injuries based on footage of the plays, had this to say about Cook's turf toe injury:

“These are awful injuries. They are painful. You can’t curl your toes to push off.”

Cook also didn't suit up for practice on Friday and worked with a resistance band away from the rest of the group.

Considering he was a DNP in Friday's practice, Cook's status for Monday Night Football is in major doubt. If he misses the Week 6 showdown against the Jets, we will likely see Sean McDermott turn to Ty Johnson, who got a few reps against Houston last week.
