The last thing any Chiefs fan wants to hear is that Patrick Mahomes has been injured, but that is what happened against the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football. This happened at the top of the fourth quarter as Kansas City tried to come back from 17-10 behind.
Patrick Mahomes led a long drive that ended with a touchdown pass, as it often does at Arrowhead. He took off on a run after play broke down to get into the endzone, but as the Buccaneers defenders converged on him, he tossed a ball to Samaje Perine. In doing so, he had to brake sharply before the line of scrimmage for it to remain a valid pass.
Mahomes picked up a non-contact injury and was immediately in pain. As the stadium waited with bated breath, he needed help on both sides to take him to his sideline. He was attended to by the medical professionals, but the good news was that he was ruled fit to return to the field, despite an ankle injury being confirmed.

Patrick Mahomes was on the injury report leading into this game. Even though he participated in full practice all days, it was clearly a cause of concern after he rolled it in the previous match against the Raiders. He came back out with a tape on his injured ankle. However, such a scare only reinforces how important he is to the Chiefs offense.
Patrick Mahomes' injury overshadows magical Chiefs TD vs Buccaneers
Nothing showed Patrick Mahomes' brilliance like the touchdown play that caused, or re-aggravated, the ankle injury. On a third-and-goal, it looked as if the Buccaneers had all the wide receivers well-covered in the endzone.
The Chiefs quarterback saw that and took off. Sensing the danger, the Tampa Bay defenders converged on him. That left Samaje Perine standing alone in the end zone. Mahomes had the presence of mind to recognize that, slow down before the line of scrimmage, and toss a pass to his wide-open receiver.
That tied the game 17-17. A defensive stand by the Kansas City defense in the next drive meant that the Buccaneers went three-and-out. That gave the Chiefs a chance to play for the lead, and to everyone's relief at Arrowhead, Patrick Mahomes came jogging out to lead that drive. To absolutely nobody's surprise, it led to another touchdown that gave the home team the lead.
