Drake Maye is an American Football player who plays the Quarterback position for North Carolina Tar Heels. Drake was born on 30 August 2002 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The 20-year-old signal caller already generated quite a buzz in his sophomore year. There are high expectations from him going into the next season.
Drake comes from a family that is almost entirely involved in sports. His father Mark Maye also played football as a quarterback at the University of North Carolina (UNC). His mother Aimee played basketball in Charlotte.
Moreover, two of his three brothers, Luke and Cole were also college athletes. Luke was a great basketball player for the Tar Heels from 2015-2019. He helped his team win the national championship in 2017. His other brother Cole was a baseball pitcher with the Florida Gators and a member of the 2017 Florida Gators national championship. His third brother, Beau, is a member of the UNC basketball team since 2022.
Drake has had a superb 2022 season. At one point in time, Maye was also in the running for the Heisman Award. Even though Maye was not declared as the Tar Heels’ starter until fall camp, he ended up starting 14 games and performing at high standards.

Drake Maye, born in Charlotte, North Carolina, went to Myers Park High School where he was a member of the football team. In high school, Drake was awarded the MaxPreps North Carolina Player of the Year. Coming out of high school, the talented quarterback was rated as a four-star prospect. He had initially committed to playing for Alabama but then switched over to North Carolina.

In 2021, Maye was the third-string quarterback on the Tar Heels’ roster. That meant that he got to play in very few games. He ended up redshirting his freshman year. In 2022, Drake was named the starter as North Carolina’s earlier starter left for the NFL.
Drake had an amazing season as a starter finishing with a 9-5 record for the Tar Heels. He threw for a total of 4,321 yards which is now the current single-season passing record for North Carolina. He bettered the previous record that was held by Mitch Trubisky. He has 39 passing touchdowns which put him 7th on the school’s all-time list. In addition, he improved his running game as well. He added 698 rushing yards which was the most on the team and finished second on the team with 7 rushing touchdowns.
