Justin Herbert is considered one of the most promising quarterbacks in the NFL today. His combination of talent and poise has helped position him as the Los Angeles Chargers' quarterback of the future.
After a wrist injury ended a wretched 2023 season four games early, 2024 has been something of a return to form for the sixth overall pick of the 2020 Draft. While he had only 332 completions for 3,870 yards and 23 touchdowns (all second-lowest totals), he did record a career-best 101.7 passer rating, proving that the loss of Keenan Allen and Mike WIlliams, his most prolific weapons, did not hamper his abilities.
But as surprising as it may seem, this is only the second time Herbert will play postseason football. How did he fare in his first?

Justin Herbert's playoff record and postseason stats explored
After a transitional 7-9 in 2020 and a 9-8 near-berth in 2021, Justin Herbert finally made his postseason debut in 2022. The Chargers had finished 10-7, good enough for one of the Wild Card spots.
They hosted the Jacksonville Jaguars, who had clinched the AFC South only on the final day of the regular season when they defeated the Tennessee Titans. And during the first half of the game, it looked like they would be cruising to a dominant win, leading 27-0.
But then the collapse came. After the 4:25 mark of the second quarter, the Chargers scored only once more - a third-quarter field goal by Cameron Dicker - and allowed 31 points en route to a loss via a buzzer-beating field goal by Riley Patterson - the biggest blown lead in franchise history, their first playoff one-and-done since 2009, and first Wild Card exit since 2004.
Herbert finished that game with 25 of 43 attempts completed for 273 yards and a touchdown to tight end Gerald Everett. However, he was also sacked thrice for a cumulative loss of 20 yards and fumbled once.
Justin Herbert aiming for first playoff win
Almost two years after that disaster, the Bolts, as they are sometimes fondly called, are back in the playoffs at 11-6. Once again, they are a Wild Card visiting the AFC South champions - this time, the 10-7 Houston Texans.
And according to Justin Herbert, winning will be a major accomplishment. Speaking to the press on Wednesday, he said:
“It would mean everything for us. It is the most important game this year, because it’s the next one.”
Kickoff is at 4:30 PM ET on CBS. Sister network Nickelodeon will also carry an alternate youth-oriented broadcast led by former wide receiver and current analyst Nate Burleson.
