The Kansas City Chiefs offered perennial All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill a sizable contract extension lower than what Hill was presented by his current team, the Miami Dolphins.
Hill was drafted by the Chiefs with the 165th pick of the 2016 NFL Draft and became a legend in Kansas. He was so good that he was named on the all-decade team for the 2010s as a kick returner and was a Pro Bowler in every season as a Chief.
However, the real reason he left the Kansas City Chiefs was because the Dolphins offered him a contract he said he simply couldn't turn down. In the words of Hill,
"With no state income tax, I am living in my house for free right now."

Hill's camp did give the Kansas City Chiefs a chance to match the Miami Dolphins' offer, but they refused to do so. Instead they worked out a deal with the Dolphins that included five draft picks in exchange for Tyreek Hill.
How much money did Tyreek Hill want from the Kansas City Chiefs?
Tyreek Hill wanted a $25-26M per annum contract from the Kansas City Chiefs. Hill said on his "It Needed To Be Said" podcast:
"I am like, 'Hey Coach, I ain't even gotta be the highest-paid, for real. I just want to be put in like a realistic position that's like realistic for my family and me. I don't gotta get $30 million. At least get me 25, 26. Numbers weren't even close to that."
Hence, when the Kansas City Chiefs could not offer that money, Hill took his talents to South Beach. The Chiefs traded him to the Dolphins for five draft picks, including a 2022 first-round selection.
The deal proved beneficial for all as both franchises turned out winners at the end of the day. The Chiefs won Super Bowl LVII thanks to their existing talent, and Hill was instrumental in leading the Dolphins to a postseason berth, the first of the Tua Tagovailoa regime.
