The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for Super Bowl LVII, where they will be up against the Philadelphia Eagles in a highly anticipated matchup. Both teams have two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, with Patrick Mahomes in the red corner and Jalen Hurts in the green corner.
Mahomes was recently crowned as the league MVP for the second time in his career, while Hurts came in a distant second place. So, both QBs will be starting Super Bowl LVII, barring any unfortunate scenarios.
However, who are the other quarterbacks on the Chiefs' depth chart if Mahomes needs to go off the field? That's what we'll be looking at today as we discuss the quarterback options for the AFC Conference Champions.

Who are the Kansas City Chiefs QB options?
The Kansas City Chiefs have three active quarterbacks heading into Super Bowl LVII. These QBs are Patrick Mahomes as QB1, Chad Henne as QB2, and Shane Buechele as QB3. The three QBs make up the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback room and are the shot callers for the best team in the AFC Conference.
QB1 for the Kansas City Chiefs is the great Patrick Mahomes, arguably the best in the NFL and an undisputed starter. Mahomes has been the Chiefs' starting quarterback since his second season in the NFL in 2018, and he has quickly become one of the most important pieces in Andy Reid's offense.
Mahomes was the tenth pick in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Texas Tech, and his off-the-cuff style of play has revitalized the QB position. Mahomes has been a major reason why the Chiefs have been winning season after season, and he has led the Chiefs to yet another deep playoff run in his sixth season at QB1.
At Super Bowl LVII, however, Mahomes took a rough hit in the second quarter. the league MVP went to the bench after limping off, with medical personnel taking a look at his ankle that was a major concern heading into the biggest game of the season.
QB2 for the Chiefs is the experienced and savvy veteran Chad Henne, who has been in the league for a remarkable thirteen seasons. Henne was drafted into the NFL in 2008 by the Miami Dolphins out of Michigan State University. He enjoyed two seasons as a starter for the Dolphins, where he threw for over 2,800 passing yards and 10 touchdowns each season.
However, Henne moved to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012, where Henne once again took up a starting role. Hanne's time with the Jaguars was rather eventful, as he threw for over 2,000 passing yards and ten touchdowns in his first two seasons. Henne later fell out of favor in Jacksonville before leaving the team in 2018. He joined the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018 and has been Patrick Mahomes' backup ever since.
The QB3 is Shane Buechele, a decent quarterback in his own right, who was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Kansas City Chiefs before the 2021 NFL season. He played college football for SMU and wasn't selected in the 2021 NFL Draft. He is yet to appear in the National Football League, but at least he's learning from the best.
Which Kansas City Chiefs QB is starting tonight against the Philadelphia Eagles?
Patrick Mahomes will be the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs in their Super Bowl game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Texas Tech alum is the reigning NFL MVP, winning the award on Thursday night. Mahomes hopes to lead the Chiefs to their second Super Bowl in his tenure, and he hopes to improve on his 2021 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Chiefs fans will be hoping that Mahomes doesn't get hurt tonight. Furthermore, the Philadelphia Eagles are not the team you want to face if you use a backup or third-string QB.
