Jalen Ramsey is an American professional football cornerback for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League. He was born on October 24, 1994, in Smyrna, Tennessee. Ramsey attended high school at Ensworth High School for 1 year before transferring to Brentwood Academy. He was a 5-star recruit coming out of high school and committed to play collegiate football at Florida State University. He was recepient of numerous honors such as an All-American, All-ACC etc. while also being selected as a finalist for the much coveted Jim Thorpe Award.
What makes Ramsay really good is his phenomenal understanding of where he can pass off a player to cover another one about to get open. He seems to be able to read the play on most occasions by looking at the quarterback and getting into position to make the big defensive play. Additionally, he possesses the speed to catch up on routes where he has fallen behind. Jumping across the field to break up passes comes as second nature to him as his long arms are a boon in such situations.

Jalen is playing with the Miami Dolphins, signing a three-year deal with them in 2024. The Los Angeles Rams traded Jalen Ramsey to the Miami Dolphins on March 15, 2023. Although this trade didn’t exactly come out of the blue, it was still a surprising one especially given what the Rams got in return. The Dolphins gave away one third round pick and little known 2021 third round tight end Hunter Long while securing the services of Ramsey.

Prior to getting selected in the NFL, there was a lot of talk about Ramsey due to his good play in college. A member of the Florida State Seminoles from 2013 to 2015, Ramsey’s game did not go unnoticed to the scouts and analysts. His speed, ball breaking ability, as well as reading of the zones among other factors projected him as a first round pick for the 2016 NFL Draft.
When the moment came, he was the fifth overall pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars and the first defensive back off the board that year. Ramsey fit into the Jaguars team very efficiently from the get go and finished his rookie year with 65 combined tackles of which 55 were solo tackles. In all 16 games which he played, he also had 14 pass deflections, two interceptions and a touchdown.
Ramsey continued to provide similar production in the next two years, remaining consistent throughout his first three years in the league. In 2019 however, he had a major falling out with the Jaguars’ head coach in just the second game of the season and then missed the next few weeks citing the birth of his second child. Demanding a trade in between all of this, Ramsey was traded to the Rams midway through the 2019 season.
Taking a little while to get used to his new team, Ramsey had somewhat of a down couple of years until the end of the 2020 season. From 2021, he has had two excellent years of football once again and even helped the Rams win Super Bowl LVI in the 2021 season.
