Which NFL team does Russell Wilson play for in 2023?

Denver Broncos v Kansas City Chiefs

Russell Wilson is set to play for the Denver Broncos in 2023, unless there are some incredible, ground-shaking developments.

Wilson has been a member of the Broncos since the 2022 NFL offseason when he was traded from the Seattle Seahawks. Wilson was drafted in 2012 as a third-round pick by the Seahawks out of Wisconsin State University and earned a reputation for highlight reel plays.

Wilson didn't have to wait long to take the spotlight as he became the Seahawks' starter from day one. The 5' 11" and 215 lbs pocket threat took Seattle to the next level under Pete Carroll.

Backed by the "legion of boom" defense, Wilson led the Seahawks to numerous playoff runs, two NFC West titles, and a Super Bowl XLVIII victory.

Wilson was a legend in Seattle, but for some reason, his relationship with the franchise broke down. Several teams were interested in the nine-time Pro Bowler, but the Denver Broncos won (or lost, based on last season) the Russell Wilson sweepstakes.

The Broncos parted with a king's ransom of draft picks and swaps to get their man, but they felt the Super Bowl-winning QB was worth the capital. Wilson joined a Denver team coached by Nathaniel Hackett gunning for major honors ahead of the 2022 NFL season. Needless to say, they failed to live up to the hype.

How did Russell Wilson perform in 2022?

Unfortunately, for Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos, Wilson had a underwhelming campaign. He never truly got going and looked lost at different points in the past season.

Wilson was on a different wavelength than his receivers and needed better protection from his offensive linemen. Wilson didn't play like the future Hall of Famer that many people think him to be, and the 2022 NFL season was a write-off for him and the Broncos.

Denver had a torrid season and were among the earliest teams to get eliminated from playoff contention. As a result, the Broncos fired former head coach Nathaniel Hackett and started an extensive coaching search.

The Broncos are now coached by Sean Payton, a head coach famous for his Super Bowl win with the New Orleans Saints and his tough coaching style. That might be what the Broncos need to get going, and hopefully, the experienced coach will get the best out of Wilson in 2023.

Russell Wilson's career stats

Russell Wilson has had a long and fruitful career in the National Football League and is regularly in the conversation for the best QBs of his era. Wilson is a nine-time Pro Bowler and hardly misses a game due to injury. He is the sole quarterback in league history to amass 35,000+ passing yards and 4,500 or more rushing yards for his career.

Wilson has recorded 40,583 passing yards, 308 passing touchdowns, and 98 interceptions in 173 career games. He has also added 4,966 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns on the ground.
