The NFL season is through four weeks and teams have a general idea of if they are a playoff contender. If teams believe they aren't in contention to make the playoffs, they might look to trade players on expiring deals ahead of the NFL trade deadline.
The NFL trade deadline is not as active as other North American sports leagues, but some star players could be dealt.
When is the NFL trade deadline this year?
The 2024 NFL trade deadline is set for Monday, November 4. All trades must be completed by 4 p.m. EST.

NFL Trade Candidates: 5 names who could be on the move
1] Davante Adams, WR, Las Vegas Raiders
Davante Adams' name was mentioned in potential trade talks in the offseason but he wasn't traded. Although the Las Vegas Raiders are off to a 2-2 start, if Las Vegas is not in playoff contention in a month, Adams will be a popular trade target.
The star receiver has a potential out after this season, which is why he could be a trade candidate.
2] Haason Reddick, DE, New York Jets
The New York Jets acquired pass rusher Haason Reddick on April 1 from the Philadelphia Eagles for a conditional third-round pick.
However, Reddick has been holding out as he wants a new deal, which is why the Eagles traded him. Through four weeks, Reddick has yet to play a snap and the longer he holds out, the Jets will likely look to deal him to get something for him.
UPDATE: According to The Athletic's NFL insider Dianna Russini, Reddick's new agent Drew Rosenhaus has been granted a short window to pursue a trade. Rosenhaus has reportedly been gauging interest around the league in the past 12 hours after attending the Jets' Monday Night Football game against the Buffalo Bills.
Incidentally, the Lions just ross DE Aidan Hutchinson for the season, which could possibly make Reddick a prime candidate to replace him.
3] Jonathan Jones, CB, New England Patriots
The New England Patriots were expected to be one of the worst teams in the NFL and they are off to a 1-3 start. If such a display continues, Jonathan Jones could be dealt before the deadline.
Jones is a shutdown corner, and this season, he has recorded 19 tackles, one forced fumble and three pass defenses. Jones will be one of, if not the best corner available, and any team can use help in their secondary.
4] Russell Wilson, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers
Russell Wilson's name will be one to watch ahead of the 2024 NFL trade deadline.
Wilson is dealing with an injury which has led to Justin Fields being the starting quarterback. Fields has led Pittsburgh to a 3-1 start and he could be the starter for the remainder of the season.
If the Steelers opt to roll with Fields, Wilson could be the top quarterback available in trade.
5] Miles Sanders, RB, Carolina Panthers
Miles Sanders signed a four-year, $25.4 million contract before the 2023 NFL season but he has been passed over on the depth chart.
Chuba Hubbard has become the starter and with Jonathan Brooks set to return soon from the PUP list, it makes Sanders expendable.
It likely wouldn't cost much to acquire Sanders who can add some depth to a running back room.
