Tom Brady waited until the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft to hear his name called. His former head coach Bill Belichick revealed in April 2016 that he didn't have high expectations for the quarterback.

Brady was fourth on the quarterback depth chart and Belichick figured that he would just give him a chance to compete and see how things went from there.

"Out there with everybody else and let him compete and we'll see what happens," Belichick said in 2016 about the draft decision

Shortly after the pick was made and Tom Brady was drafted at number 199, Bill Belichick told reporters that the quarterback was "good value" that late in the draft. Brady and Brady spent 20 seasons together with the New England Patriots, winning six Super Bowl titles.

Tom Brady finished his career as the all-time passing leader in the NFL with 89,214 yards.

Tom Brady nearly signed with Bears after Patriots career

Tom Brady decided after the 2019 NFL season that he was ready to test free agency at 42. He ultimately decided to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but this past weekend he revealed an unlikely destination that nearly signed him.

While calling the Tampa Bay Buccaneers matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, Brady revealed to Kevin Burkhardt that the Chicago Bears were serious in their recruitment of the Super Bowl-winning quarterback.

"Ultimately, Chicago was a team — and I never told that story before — they were very stealth in their recruitment. I was seriously considering them," Brady said during the FOX broadcast

Brady never disclosed that information before, although it was rumored that other teams were trying their best efforts to sign him. Brady showed notes that he had taken to compare the pros and cons of signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Chicago Bears.

However, Brady didn't reveal what led him to sign with the Buccaneers over the Bears. Tampa Bay won Super Bowl LV in his first season.
