In 1983, though, Donald Trump was reportedly approached about an opportunity to buy the NFL franchise. He declined and on Jan. 1, 1984, the New York Times published his thoughts on a potential new owner of the NFL franchise. Trump said that he 'felt sorry' for the potential new owner. He said that even if they ended up being successful, it wouldn't be impressive.
"I feel sorry for the poor guy who is going to buy the Dallas Cowboys," Trump said on January 1, 1984 as reported by the New York Times. "It's a no-win situation for him, because if he wins, well, so what, they've won through the years, and if he loses, which seems likely because they're having troubles, he'll be known to the world as a loser."

This week, Forbes released its annual list of "Most Valuable Sports Franchises." Dallas once again topped the list, as the team is worth $10.1 billion. The Cowboys are now the first professional sports franchise to cross the $10 billion mark in history.

This is the ninth consecutive year that the Dallas Cowboys have topped the list as the most valuable franchise. The next closest NFL franchise in value are the Los Angeles Rams who are reportedly worth $7.6 billion who are ranked third overall. Second is the NBA's Golden State Warriors who are worth $8.8 billion.
