When is Ravens' Lamar Jackson a free agent?

Baltimore Ravens v Los Angeles Rams

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is one of the premier players in the NFL. As such, you would expect Jackson to be among the highest-paid players at his position, earning much more than your average NFL shot-caller.

However, it's the contrary, as Jackson is rather among the lowest-earning quarterbacks in the league. The reason is that he is currently in the fifth year of his NFL rookie contract and failed to agree on an extension before the 2022-23 season began.

As such, the quarterback will be a free agent after the 2022-23 NFL season.

How much is Lamar Jackson due?

Lamar Jackson is currently set to make $23.016 million on his fifth-year option in 2022. He signed the rookie contract as the Ravens' first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He is comfortably the lowest-earning QB for his stature. His colleagues such as Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, and Deshaun Watson are presently earning over $45 million per year.

However, it's not for lack of trying that the Ravens could not sign Jackson to a better deal before the 2022-23 NFL season. The Ravens' front office reportedly offered Jackson a salary worth over $46.1 million (higher than the salary that Kyler Murray signed recently with the Arizona Cardinals), but Jackson rejected it.

The former Heisman Trophy winner is probably looking for something closer or higher than Aaron Rodgers' $50.2 million deal.

Lamar Jackson Timeline

The Baltimore Ravens selected Jackson as the 31st pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of the University of Louisville. They picked him to serve as a backup to Joe Flacco in the 2018-19 NFL season. Jackson then got his shot when Flacco got hurt during the season and the former never looked back. He won the league MVP award in 2019 (just a year after being drafted).

In 2022, Lamar Jackson has been just as effective for the 5-3 Baltimore Ravens. The dual-threat quarterback has racked up a stat line of 1,635 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, six interceptions, two rushing touchdowns, and a 63.7 QBR.
