When was the Super Bowl last in New Orleans? Revisiting events at SBLIX

We are now tracking down the days until Super Bowl LIX, which will be played at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, Feb. 9. The NFC champion, either the Washington Commanders or the Philadelphia Eagles, will face the AFC champion, either the Buffalo Bills or the Kansas City Chiefs, in this year's Super Bowl.

The Superdome is the stadium that has hosted the most Super Bowls, and this year's NFL championship game will be the eighth one to be held there. Additionally, it will be the 11th Super Bowl taking place in New Orleans.

Super Bowl XLVII, held at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in 2013, is the latest Big Game to be staged in the city.

A list of all the Super Bowls hosted in New Orleans

The last Super Bowl to be played at the Superdome in New Orleans took place in 2013, when the Baltimore Ravens won Super Bowl XLVII after defeating the San Francisco 49ers by a slim margin of 34-31.

Miami (11) is the only American metro area to have hosted the Super Bowl more than New Orleans, having done so 10 times.

Caesars Superdome, formerly the Louisiana Superdome and Mercedes-Benz Superdome, has accommodated seven of those 10 Super Bowls in New Orleans, while Tulane Stadium, which was razed in 1980, held three.

The list of all NFL championship games played in New Orleans is provided below:

1) Super Bowl IV - Tulane Stadium - Kansas City Chiefs won 23-7 over Minnesota Vikings in the 1969 season

2) Super Bowl VI - Tulane Stadium - Dallas Cowboys won 24-3 over the Miami Dolphins in the 1971 season

3) Super Bowl IX - Tulane Stadium - Pittsburgh Steelers won 16-6 over the Minnesota Vikings in the 1974 season

4) Super Bowl XII - Louisiana Superdome - Dallas Cowboys won 27-10 over the Denver Broncos in the 1977 season

5) Super Bowl XV - Louisiana Superdome - Oakland Raiders won 27-10 over the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1980 season

6) Super Bowl XX - Louisiana Superdome - Chicago Bears won 46-10 over the New England Patriots in the 1985 season

7) Super Bowl XXIV - Louisiana Superdome - San Francisco 49ers won 55-10 over the Denver Broncos in the 1989 season

8) Super Bowl XXXI - Louisiana Superdome - Green Bay Packers won 35-21 over the New England Patriots in the 1996 season

9) Super Bowl XXXVI - Louisiana Superdome - New England Patriots won 20-17 over the St. Louis Rams in the 2001 season

10) Super Bowl XLVII - Mercedes-Benz Superdome - Baltimore Ravens won 34-31 over the San Francisco 49ers in the 2012 season
