When Tom Brady opened up about the truth behind his marriage to Gisele Bündchen

After 13 years of marriage, Tom Brady and his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen announced their separation in Oct. 2022. The ex-supermodel claimed that she wanted to set Brady free since they had grown apart during their marriage.

However, there was a time when Brady and Bündchen were in sync with each other. That’s why Brady decided to marry her, even though he had a child with his ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan. In an interview with CNN in August 2017, Brady revealed the reason behind marrying Bündchen.

“Family is everything to me," Brady said. "I had such a great mom and dad growing up – that showed me what a great relationship and marriage is all about … And to find a wife who has the same outlook as I do, I mean, her mom and dad I love so much. They gave their family the same roots, you know.”

Brady and Bündchen valued their families. Bündchen drastically reduced her modeling schedule to make time for her family. She not only raised her two children with Brady but also embraced his son with Moynahan as her own.

Brady explained how he and Bündchen had similar childhood experiences that brought them closer.

“Gisele grew up with five sisters, and they are all very close, and I grew up with three sisters, and we are all very close," Brady added. "To find a woman who is really a great partner and we have so many of the same beliefs, it’s been, it’s just one of the best parts of my life.”

Gisele Bündchen’s appreciation for family values was evident during the early phase of their relationship. They started dating in 2006 after meeting on a blind date set up by Tom Brady’s friend, which Bündchen described as love at first sight.

However, their love story was tested when they learned about Moynahan’s pregnancy. Still, Bündchen forgave Brady and later accepted the child as well.

Toward the end of Brady’s career, Bündchen wanted him to devote more time to his family, while Brady was chasing another Lombardi Trophy. After Brady reversed his retirement in 2022, Bündchen felt that Brady prioritized football more than she had anticipated. This eventually led to their mutual decision to divorce.
