Jalen Hurts is one of the most prominent dual-threat quarterbacks in the NFL today. The Philadelphia Eagles shot caller has two Pro Bowl selections and the reputation of being a proven performer for the NFC giants.

Hurts attended the University of Alabama, where he studied communication, and later the University of Oklahoma. Here's a closer look at how Hurts performed at the collegiate level and how it shaped him to be an elite NFL quarterback.

How did Jalen Hurts perform in college?

According to OU's school website, Jalen Hurts was a consensus four-star recruit out of Channelview High School. Hurts was ranked as the country's best dual-threat quarterback, and that status clearly enticed head coach Nick Saban.

Jalen Hurts joined the Crimson Tide for the 2016 collegiate football season. Under the bright lights of Alabama, Hurts impressed and earned numerous awards, such as SEC Freshman of the Year, SEC Newcomer of the Year, SEC Offensive Player of the Year and the All-SEC first-team. He passed for 2,780 yards on 382 attempts, registering 23 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Hurts entered his second season at Tuscaloosa with the aim of showing that Year 1 wasn't the exception, but the norm. Hurts started in all 14 games as a sophomore, guiding the Crimson Tide to the CFP National Championship Game, where they defeated the Georgia Bulldogs in a statement overtime win for Nick Saban's side.

Hurts' final season at Alabama wasn't the best, nor did it put him in a great spot with draft evaluators. That's because Hurts was relegated to the backup quarterback role behind a young Tua Tagovailoa. It was clear during his junior year that Hurts would be departing the Crimson Tide at the end of the season; it was just a question of to whom.

Hurts didn't waste time answering that question, as he took his talents to Oklahoma. Hurts enjoyed the best season of his collegiate career at OU. He ended the season runner-up in the Heisman Trophy voting. He was also a finalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose, Maxwell Award, Davey O'Brien Award, Manning Award and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Awards. Hurts regained his reputation as a top draft prospect after a sole season at Oklahoma.

His single season in Oklahoma saw him throw for 3,851 on 340 attempts for 32 TDs and eight picks.

He was later drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles as a round-two selection in the 2020 NFL draft. Now 62 regular-season games later, Hurts has gone on to break NFL records, lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl and become a rushing touchdown machine. He enters the 2024 season with just one goal on his mind.
