The Super Bowl is undoubtedly the most important athletic event in the United States. To enjoy the league's annual Championship game, a huge number of US citizens spend an enormous amount of money, organizing Super Bowl parties, preparing meals and gathering in large numbers.

You might think the teams that contest in the Super Bowl should get to decide the location of the game. Well, that's not the case.

The venue for the game is selected by the league's administrators before the season begins. Certain cities have not previously staged a Super Bowl, while others have hosted the event more often than others.

It's interesting to know which NFL cities have never hosted a Super Bowl game as we get ready for Super Bowl LIX, which will be held in New Orleans.

Why have the cities never hosted a Super Bowl?

The stadium where the Super Bowl is held each year is determined as per several variables. The NFL typically selects a dome stadium, where the weather is unimportant, or a venue in a warm region. The NFL wants all games to be contested on an even playing field, free from the influence of weather.

The stadium's newness and if it has modern amenities is another factor that the league typically takes into account.

Another consideration when choosing which cities will host the Big Game is location. Stadiums in major cities with sufficient accommodation for all of the tourists and attendees are typically selected by the league's executives. For obvious reasons, they usually steer clear of host stadiums in relatively small cities.
