John Urschel is an assistant professor at MIT
Following his retirement from active football, John Urschel immersed himself in the world of mathematics. He completed his PhD in math at MIT in 2021 and was advised by Michel Goemans.
Urschel is currently an assistant professor in the MIT Math department and a Junior Fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows. According to his staff page at MIT, his research focuses on matrix and numerical analysis, emphasizing theoretical results and proveable guarantees for practical problems.
He has published academic papers, including but not limited to "Average Nodal Count and the Nodal Count Condition for Graphs" and "A New Upper Bound for the Growth Factor in Gauss. Elimin. with Complete Pivoting, Preprint", "Nodal Decompositions of a Symmetric Matrix, International Math. Research Notices", "Maximum Spread of Graphs and Bipartite Graphs, Communications of the AMS," and more. He teaches four courses at MIT, namely 18.335, 18.330, Math 232, and Math 041.
