Former NFL offensive tackle Aaron Gibson played as an offensive tackle. During his time in the league, he played for the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, and Detroit Lions. He also played for the Arena Football League's Cleveland Gladiators and Austin Wranglers. He starred in college football in Wisconsin.

When he played for the Dallas Cowboys in 2002, Gibson officially weighed 410 pounds, making him the biggest player in NFL history. Across his entire NFL career, Aaron Gibson's weight fluctuated, but it tended to average about 400 pounds and peak at 410.

The Detroit Lions dealt three draft picks to the Miami Dolphins in 1999 to move up 12 positions and select Gibson. His NFL career did not pan out the way he had hoped. He was reduced to a shell of his former self by two shoulder injuries, which abruptly ended his career. Over six seasons, the last of which was in 2004, he only played in 38 games.

Gibson managed to hold onto the game of football for longer than his body could take. He joined the Arena Football League's Austin Wranglers in 2007 but struggled the entire season. In 2010, he gave it another go with the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings of the AFL, but this time the misery was much worse. He knew he couldn't participate in sports again after just one practice, but he nonetheless suited up for the first game, where he broke a bone in his leg.

Aaron Gibson’s College career

The University of Wisconsin offered Aaron Gibson a football scholarship, which he accepted. Because he didn't fulfill certain conditions, he couldn't participate in his first year. He played his first game in the fifth game of the following year and spent most of that season as a backup right tackle, blocking tight ends.

In 1997, Gibson started at right tackle as a junior. In 1998, as a senior, he was selected to the first team of the American Football Coaches Association and Football Writers Association, earning him recognition as a consensus first-team All-American. He was also unanimously chosen to be the first team in the Big Ten Conference.

Gibson clocked a time of 5.3 seconds for the 40-yard dash at the 1999 NFL Scouting Combine. He was regarded as "a proto-type right tackle in the NFL" for having a large body with big legs.

In the 1999 NFL Draft, Aaron Gibson was taken by the Detroit Lions as the 27th overall choice. He was an offensive tackle who played for the Lions, Cowboys, Bears, and Buffalo Bills from 1999 to 2004.
