All 32 teams in the NFL aim to win the Super Bowl. It's why teams pay their players the big bucks, turn over coaches and GMs, and invest in state-of-the-art training facilities.
However, before a team wins the Super Bowl, it must make it there. Interestingly, four teams have yet to play in the big game in their history. We will look at all four in this piece.

Here's a look at the closest they've gotten to breaking the duck and how they performed in the 2024/25 season:
1. Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns enjoyed their best era in the late 1980s, reaching the AFC Championship Game in 1986, 1987 and 1989. However, John Elway and the Denver Broncos always ended their journeys.
This season was typically disappointing as the Browns ended the year with a 3-14 record. They'll be looking for consistency and better showings in the future.
2. Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions have zero Super Bowl appearances in their almost 100-year existence. The Lions have just one NFC championship game appearance, which was in 2023/24 against the San Francisco 49ers. That lost the game closely as the 49ers ate up a 17-point deficit.
The Lions' wait will continue a bit longer after their upset loss to the Washington Commanders in this season's divisional round.
3. Houston Texans
The Houston Texans have never made the AFC championship game, but that's not a huge surprise. The Texans joined the league in 2002 and are the youngest in the NFL.
They have a bright future under DeMeco Ryans and with C.J. Stroud at QB. This year's divisional-round game loss to the Kansas City Chiefs will sting, but we should see the Texans competing for the next decade.
4. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars have made three AFC championship game appearances but have not been to the Super Bowl. Their most recent trip to the conference championship was in the 2017 season when they lost to a Tom Brady-led New England Patriots team.
This season was an unmitigated disaster as the Jaguars finished with a 4-13 record. Don't be surprised if they remain on this list for the foreseeable future.
