The Kansas City Chiefs were the first team to secure a playoff spot this season with their 19-17 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Black Friday. The Buffalo Bills followed suit on Sunday night following their 35-10 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

As Week 13 ends on Monday night, three teams have also been officially removed from postseason eligibility. The front offices of those teams may now begin seeking to make improvements in preparation for next season as the offseason has started formally for them.

Below, we will examine the teams that won't play mid-January NFL football.

Three teams were eliminated from postseason contention in Week 13

Losses this week have removed the New England Patriots, New York Giants, and Las Vegas Raiders from postseason contention.

The Raiders' hopes of qualifying for the playoff were formally dashed after their Friday loss to the Chiefs. Additionally, the Giants became ineligible to make the playoffs following their 20-27 defeat to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving.

The Patriots's narrow 24-25 defeat to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday also eliminated them from the playoff.

If the Denver Broncos beat the Cleveland Browns 29-19 on Monday Night Football, the Jacksonville Jaguars will become the fourth team to be knocked out of postseason contention.

What is the Las Vegas Raiders' record in 2024?

Despite their better-than-expected performance against the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday, the Las Vegas Raiders lost and are officially out of the playoff race.

Given their current 2-10 record, it should be no surprise that the Raiders have been eliminated. They started the season by losing 10-22 to the Los Angeles Chargers, but they won two of their next three games. Since then, they haven't won again.

The best case scenario for the Raiders would be to finish the 2024 season with a 7-10 record, but for now, that even appears unlikely considering their current losing run.

What is the New York Giants' record in 2024?

The New York Giants, currently 2-10 on the season, lost to the Dallas Cowboys 27–20 on Thanksgiving and became the first club to lose playoff eligibility in 2024.

The Washington Commanders, who are currently 8-5 and have defeated the Giants twice this season, are in seventh and final place in the NFC wildcard race. Even if the Giants win their final five games of the season, their 7-10 record will not be sufficient to qualify for the postseason.

The Giants last made the postseason in 2022 in coach Brian Daboll's first season. The team finished the regular season with a 9-7-1 record and earned a wildcard spot.

What is the New England Patriots' record in 2024?

The New England Patriots were mathematically still in the running for the NFL playoff, even though they had a dismal 3-9 record going into Week 13. However, Sunday's 25-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts eliminated their little possibility of returning to the playoff after a two-year hiatus.

With that defeat and victories for the Los Angeles Chargers and Houston Texans in Week 13, New England was officially eliminated from playoff eligibility on Sunday.

The last time the Patriots were eliminated from postseason contention with five games to spare was in 1993 — 31 years ago.

Additionally, since Robert Kraft bought the team in January 1994, this is the first time the Pats have missed three consecutive playoffs.

At this point, it is unclear what the early elimination will mean for Jerod Mayo's future as the Patriots's coach.
