With the Washington Commanders up for sale, many interested bidders are starting to show up, and one of the most recent is Steve Apostolopoulos, as reported by ESPN insider Adam Schefter on Wednesday morning.
Steve is the son of Andreas Apostolopoulos and has taken on the family business since Andreas died in 2021. He was a Greek-Canadian businessman who was the chairman of the Triple Group of Companies, based in Toronto. He was also the owner of the Pontiac Silverdome in Detroit, which housed the Detroit Lions from 1975 to 2001.
He also announced the creation of the Durham Live entertainment district in Pickering, Ontario, which has a cost of $1.3 billion in its creation. The first part of the development was made available to the public when the casino was opened in July 2021.
Andreas died on Feb. 15, 2021.

His son, Steve, is one of the bidders to buy the Washington Commanders. Steve is the current managing director of Triple Group of Companies and also the founder of Six Ventures Inc., a private equity venture fund. Other known bidders for the Commanders' ownership are a group led by Josh Harris and another led by current Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta.
Steve Apostolopoulos' net worth is currently $3.9 billion, according to the website Canadian Business.
What's the price to buy the Washington Commanders?
The Snyders hope to get $7 billion with the sale of the team, and Forbes values the franchise at $5.6 billion.
One potential buyer who's not going to be allowed to buy the team is Jeff Bezos. The Amazon owner wants to own an NFL team, but Dan Snyder, the Commanders' owner, reportedly despises Bezos.
The Amazon owner also owns the Washington Post, which has published stories regarding malpractice and the toxic workplace involving the Washington team – issues that ultimately led Snyder to put the team up for sale.
Snyder will leave the team, but he does not want to sell to Bezos, no matter the price he could get. Even if the owners want to get rid of Snyder, they can't force him to sell the team to a specific pretender.
