The Seattle Seahawks are one of the franchises that play in the NFC conference of the NFL. They belong to the NFC West division along with the San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals, and the Los Angeles Rams.
The Seahawks play their home games at Lumen Field in Seattle and the team has some of the best fans in the entire league. In fact, the fans of the Seahawks are often referred to as the ‘12th man’ or the 12s because their support gives the team an additional boost during the game.
At the center of the stage initiating the crowd noise and cheering are the team's two costumed mascots Blitz and Boom. During games, both mascots are in the thick of the action celebrating and supporting their team as mascots should do. Let us get a better insight into the two mascots who make up the larger part of the Seahawks team.
Seahawks Mascot Blitz
Blitz is the original and official mascot of the Seahawks. Blitz was introduced by the team prior to the 1998 NFL season and has since undergone a change of design in 2014. The former Blitz was a big blue bird with an orange beak and he dressed in the Seahawks uniform.
After the change of appearance, the mascot has become less muscular but looks much more like a real bird and has a tougher look. He still retains a vibrant deep blue color but now his beak and the back side of his head are a light gray. His thick eyebrows are white which also runs down the sides of the face joining the chin. He also has three layered feathers on each underside of the arms which are in light gray, fluorescent green and deep blue. He wears the number 0 jersey of the Seahawks with the same deep blue pants.
The ever-enthusiastic mascot was once asked a bunch of questions to which he gave some sportingly great replies. He named his favorite game time snack to be garlic fries, but then also mentioned that he can’t eat them before a game as they make him smell bad. When asked how he stays warm during the winter, he funnily replied by saying that he keeps running around the stadium and being at the center of all the action.
He further added that the fans give him a lot of love and he misses all the screaming, noisy fans during the offseason. Being a member of the 12s, it is important that they support the team and keep their spirits high each and every game.
When Blitz is not busy with the game, he can be seen at various events throughout the year such as at charities, fundraisers, parties, and more.
Seahawks Mascot Boom
Boom is the Seahawks' second mascot and he is stated to be the official sidekick of Blitz. He is considered to be Blitz’s little brother and was introduced before the 2014 season, the same time that Blitz got his makeover.
As per the mascot team in Seattle, Boom was designed in such a way as to appeal more to the younger fans and to get them excited for the game. As per the team Boom attends more family friendly events to attract the kids and also roams the sidelines during games.
Boom has a similar design and costume as that of Blitz, but he is given a face resembling a youth rather than an adult. His colors are also similar which consists of a light gray body and a white beak and black around the eyes and front of the face. He is seen wearing a white jersey with the 00 number and deep blue shorts. Boom also wears a backward baseball cap with fluorescent feathers coming out the front of the cap.
