Who are the Colts coaches for the 2023 NFL season? Staff overhaul complete as we enter the Shane Steichen era

Pittsburgh Steelers v Philadelphia Eagles
Staff overhaul complete as we enter the Shane Steichen era in Indianapolis

Shane Steichen was appointed as the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts earlier this year. The former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator replaced former Colts player Jeff Saturday, who was interim head coach after Frank Reich was fired in November.

Steichen has previously worked in different capacities with the Los Angeles Chargers, Cleveland Browns, and Philadelphia Eagles. He now has his coaching team completely assembled. They are all set to get to work as Steichen takes on his first head coaching job in the NFL.

The immediate goal for Steichen's team is to improve the results of the team after a disappointing 4-12-1 season.

The Colts have replaced nearly all of their coaching staff

Almost the entire offensive coaching staff of the Colts underwent an overhaul. Wide receivers coach Reggie Wayne, who played 14 seasons with the team as a player, is one of the few coaches retained by the team to work with Shane Steichen.

Defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, who joined in February 2022 under head coach Frank Reich, was also retained by the franchise. Bradley previously worked as the head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars but returned to assistant coaching after he was dismissed in 2016.

Jim Bob Cooter, who worked as an offensive assistant with the team between 2009 and 2011, has been rehired as the offensive coordinator. He has a lot of work to do, with the team underperforming offensively last season.

The Colts have also brought in Brian Mason as the special teams coordinator. Mason is taking his first shot at coaching in the NFL after spending over 15 years in college football. He is joining the team from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football program.
