The Chicago Bears are one of the more prominent teams in the NFL. The team has a very long history and had quite some success from the early 1930s to the mid-1940s when they won nine NFL Championships before the Super Bowl era. After that, the franchise once again saw a dominant run from 1984 to 1990 winning their division all but once and winning Super Bowl XX against the New England Patriots.
In the current game, the Bears play in the NFC North and are divisional rivals with the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, and Minnesota Vikings. Off late, the team has had very limited success with longer stints of bad performance mixed in with a few good seasons here and there. Now, with a new and young quarterback, Justin Fields at the helm who many perceive to be the real deal, the Bears would be eyeing some improvement heading into the future.
Bears Mascot Staley Da Bear
Staley Da Bear has been the mascot of the Chicago Bears from 2003 onwards. Now, entering his 21st season, Staley has made quite a connection with his fans and one will be hard-pressed to find a local who hasn’t heard of him.
Staley is a big brown bear with a larger head. He has brown eyes and a black nose. He is seen mostly in the Bears jersey with the number 00, but for some reason, he doesn’t wear pants.
Staley gained much popularity in 2006 which was the year the Bears made it to the Super Bowl once again. He appeared in many guest appearances on TV, attended parties, charity events, and more. Since then he has continued his rise to fandom by showing up at various places in the city to prank both adults and kids. One time he even made his big way into an even bigger claw machine and mixed himself in with other stuffed animals. When someone came to play he would wait patiently and suddenly jump up giving the people quite a scare.
Additionally, he has been to more important events also and loves visiting schools to teach young kids about anti-bullying, and other educational programs including but not limited to healthy eating practices, the benefits of physical exercise, proper hydration, and the necessity of reading.
How Bears Mascot Got his Name
The name for the Bears mascot goes back a long way. In fact, his name originates from the very beginnings of this precious football club. In 1919, the Bears football club was founded by a person named A.E. Staley who ran a food starch company in Decatur, Illinois.
Started as a company team at first, the Bears at the time were known as the Decatur Staleys. A couple of years later, the team’s name changed to the Chicago Staleys, and in 1922 it became the Chicago Bears which we know today. It was with this history in mind that the Bears introduced their new mascot Staley Da Bear in a heartwarming tribute to the club’s great founder.
