Ron Torbert will officiate his 13th playoff game as head referee when the Washington Commanders and Detroit Lions play in the divisional round. He previously served as the head of the referee crew for one conference game, one Super Bowl, seven divisional round games and four wild-card playoff games.
Before taking on the role of referee in the 2014 NFL season, Torbert served as a side judge when he first entered the league in the 2010 season.
This season, Torbert and his team have thrown the flag on 226 penalties in 16 games, which is only second to Clete Blakeman's team. Torbert's crew is a little above the season average of 12.86 penalties per game, having averaged just over 14 penalties per game.
Ron Torbert didn't get to officiate any game involving the Lions this season, but he did oversee one Washington Commanders' matchup in Week 13 against the Tennessee Titans. Washington emerged 42-19 winners in that contest, with 19 flags thrown in total—12 against Tennessee and seven against the Commanders.
