Sean Desai played football for Boston College before going on to Temple University to earn a law degree before transitioning to coaching. Before working as a defensive coach at several universities and entering the NFL with the Chicago Bears as a defensive quality control coach in 2013, Desai started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Temple University.

Desai has established an excellent track record as a dedicated and creative coordinator by collaborating with some of the top NFL coaches, such as Vic Fangio and Chuck Pagano. In 2016 and 2019, he received promotions, first as an assistant special teams coach, then as a safeties coach. He received a promotion to defensive coordinator in 2021.

In his career as a coaching assistant, Desai has accomplished several noteworthy feats. He assisted the Chicago Bears in strengthening their defense and guided them to the playoffs in his first season as defensive coordinator. Desai has gained admiration and regard from his contemporaries and players for his creative coaching techniques and ability to adjust to shifting game circumstances.

As the first person of Indian heritage to occupy that job in NFL history, Desai's ascension to defensive coordinator also created history.
