The Dallas Cowboys are 4-2 to begin the 2022 NFL season. The Cowboys did this mostly without franchise quarterback Dak Prescott who got hurt in the first game of the season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It was a game that Prescott wasn't playing well in.
Prescott was ruled out of the next five games following the Week 1 matchup against Tom Brady and the Bucs, and career backup QB Cooper Rush took his place.
Cooper Rush was amazing in steadying the ship in Prescott's absence. His ball retention skills ensured that the Dallas Cowboys didn't need to dip into free agency to mitigate the loss of Dak Prescott.
Rush totalled 1,020 passing yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions in the matches that Prescott missed due to his fractured thumb in Dallas' Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers. His form was so good that sports analysts called for him to be given the starting quarterback gig full-time even after Prescott returned from injury.

However, such calls were immediately jettisoned after Rush's flaws were laid bare in his iffy performance against the unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles.
Then, on Thursday, the former Pro Bowler Prescott told reporters that he is playing on Sunday when the Dallas Cowboys play host to the Lions in Week 7. This message led to mixed reactions from Cowboys fans as some seem to want Cooper Rush at the center. Many others though, are glad to get Dak Prescott back calling the shots.
Though it is not 100% certain, Dak Prescott looks set to start against the Lions, as the locker room leader would be looking to restart his 2022 season immediately.
How have the Dallas Cowboys' quarterbacks faired this season?
The Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks' performances have been one of the more interesting subplots in the 2022 NFL season thus far, with each week bringing a new script to analyze.
Dak Prescott is the undisputed starter for the Dallas Cowboys, and he has been since he was drafted by Jerry Jones and Co. in 2016. He had a solid preseason, and it looked like he was about to prove that he wasn't a flash in the pan and that the league hadn't seen his peak yet.
However, a mixture of bad luck and poor protection from his guards led him to leave the Week 1 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a fractured right thumb.
As a result of the injury, Prescott had not seen the Gridiron since Week 1, when he threw a pick in an opening game loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Prescott will be looking to take his spot under center in the Week 7 matchup against the 1-4 Detroit Lions.
On the other hand, Cooper Rush just did his legacy a lot of favor with how he performed in the five games he started in place of the then-injured Dak Prescott.
The shot caller put up career numbers across the board and showed the rest of the league that he is much more than a footnote in the Cowboys' QB room. He was so good that there were whispers that the Dallas Cowboys might just stick with him at QB even when Dak is back from injury.
That wasn't the case, but we doubt Rush would be too displeased with his start to the 2022 NFL season.
