NFL 2024 preseason Week 1: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Houston Texans preview
The Pittsburgh Steelers had a strong run last season. They finished with a 10-7 record and qualified for the postseason, where they were beaten 31-17 in the wild-card round.
Mike Tomlin's team will aim to make another push for the playoffs in the upcoming 2024 NFL season. He will use the preseason to fine-tune his squad.
For the preseason matchup against the Texans on Friday, Pittsburgh will not start QB1 Russell Wilson. Instead, Justin Fields will lead the offense.
The Texans, on the other hand, had an excellent campaign in 2023. They clinched the AFC South and won their wild-card game against the Cleveland Browns. However, Houston crashed out of the playoffs in the divisional round, following a 34-10 loss against the Baltimore Ravens.
Houston will want to build on last season's success. Quarterback C.J. Stroud is expected to lead the offense for the team, but the Texans might not risk using him in the preseason matchup against the Steelers on Friday.
Notably, this will be the Texans' second preseason game this year. They played in the Hall of Fame Game and fell short 21-17 to the Chicago Bears. The contest ended early due to inclement weather in Ohio. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see which Houston quarterback takes most of the snaps against Pittsburgh on Friday.
