The Chicago Bears have appointed Thomas Brown as their new offensive coordinator after firing Shane Waldron on Tuesday. Let's find out who Brown is and what NFL fans should know about him.

Brown began his NFL career as a coaching assistant with the Rams in 2020, spending three seasons in Los Angeles under Sean McVay. He was initially responsible for managing the tight ends and running backs units before spending two years as an assistant head coach. He was a member of the Rams coaching staff that won a Super Bowl and the NFC North Division at that time.

After that, Brown became the offensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers in 2023. He then joined the Bears as an offensive passing game coordinator in 2024.

There were reports in January 2023 that the Houston Texans wanted to interview Thomas Brown for their head coaching vacancy, but DeMeco Ryans was hired instead.

“Thomas has a bright, offensive mind and experience calling plays with a collaborative mindset,” Chicago Bears HC Matt Eberflus said about Brown. “I look forward to his leadership over our offensive coaching staff and his plan for our players.”

The Bears will now put Brown in charge of turning around a faltering offense and a rookie quarterback who has significantly underperformed in the last few games.

Thomas Brown will be charged with fixing Chicago Bears' misfiring offense

Shane Waldron was fired two days after the team's appalling offensive showing in the 19-3 loss to the New England Patriots.

The Bears' new offensive coordinator and play caller Thomas Brown's major responsibility will be to restructure the team's offensive plan around 2024 No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams. He hasn't tossed a touchdown since the team's victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6.

This is the first time in 20 years that the club has failed to register an offensive touchdown in two straight games. Additionally, the Bears only managed one offensive touchdown against the Washington Commanders in Week 8, which means they have only managed one in their last three games while losing three straight games by an aggregate score of 66-27.

Brown will be tasked with returning the Bears offense to its pre-bye level. In four of its first six games, the team scored no less than 24 points while going 4-2 and winning four straight games at home. Even though the team wasn't flawless then, the offense worked.
