At the 12th annual NFL Honors on Thursday night, the NFL recognized another year of outstanding play around the league. Patrick Mahomes has received yet another coveted award following a record-breaking season: The AP 2022 NFL Most Valuable Player.

During the event, the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2023 was unveiled, while Kelly Clarkson (the first female host in the event's history) announced The Associated Press' NFL honors.

The NFL Honors (an annual gala event styled after the Academy Awards) gives the league the chance to recognize the best athletes in the NFL. The finest players in the league gather to commemorate the NFL's shining stars, but who decides on who wins these awards?

At the end of the regular season, 50 members of the national media who regularly cover the NFL submit their ballots. The process is overseen by the Associated Press (AP), which is why the honor is called the "AP NFL Awards."

List of winners announced at 12th annual NFL Honors

Here is the full list of awards that were presented in the NFL honors for the 2022 season:

  • AP Coach of the Year: Brian Daboll, Giants
  • AP Comeback Player of the Year: Geno Smith, Seahawks quarterback
  • AP Offensive Player of the Year presented by Microsoft Surface: Justin Jefferson, Vikings wide receiver
  • AP Defensive Player of the Year: Nick Bosa, 49ers defensive end
  • AP Offensive Rookie of the Year: Garrett Wilson, Jets wide receiver
  • AP Defensive Rookie of the Year: Sauce Gardner, Jets cornerback
  • Next Gen Stats Moment of the Year: Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson's catch versus Bills
  • Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year presented by Nationwide: Dak Prescott, Cowboys quarterback
