Due to their No. 1 seed in the NFC, the Lions (15-2) received a first-round bye for the playoffs. This meant they did not have to play in the wild-card round of games, getting an automatic berth in the divisional round.

The Commanders, meanwhile, entered the postseason with the No. 6 seed, the second lowest after the Green Bay Packers. However, after the Packers' loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington is now the lowest remaining seed in the conference.

If the Eagles had lost to Green Bay earlier on Sunday, the Commanders would have played the winner of Monday night's Minnesota Vikings vs. LA Rams wild-card game in the divisional round. However, since Philly won its postseason game against the Packers, the only opponent that Washington could get was Detroit.

The Lions will pose a different challenge for the Commanders in the playoffs. Moreover, Detroit's players will be well-rested in the divisional round after getting a bye in the first round of the postseason.

Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels will continue to lead Washinton's offense in the next round of the postseason. Meanwhile, Jared Goff will start as the Lions' signal-caller.

Here are the key details for the Commanders-Lions second-round playoff game:
