Due to their No. 1 seed, the Lions will need to wait longer than usual to discover their next opponents in the playoffs. Nonetheless, Detroit is guaranteed to face the lowest remaining seed in the NFC following the wild-card round.
As things stand, the Lions can play any four opponents in the divisional round, including the LA Rams, Minnesota Vikings, Washington Commanders or Green Bay Packers.
Here's a look at how the Lions' next opponent in the divisional round could be determined.
LA Rams
The No. 4 seed Lions will face the fifth-seeded Minnesota Vikings in the wild-card round. If the No. 2 seed Eagles, No. 3 seed Buccaneers and No. 4 seed Rams all win in the first round of the postseason, LA would be the lowest remaining seed and would have to face Detroit.
Minnesota Vikings
The No. 5 seed Vikings could set up a clash against the Lions if they beat the No. 4 seed Rams and also see both the No. 6 seed Commanders and No. 7 seed Packers lose in the NFC Wild-Card Round.
Washington Commanders
The No. 6 seed Commanders can draw Detroit in the divisional round if they win their wild-card game against the Buccaneers and have the Packers lose their matchup against the Eagles.
Green Bay Packers
The Packers will set up a clash against the Lions in the divisional round if they simply win against the Eagles in their NFL playoffs' wild-card round.
