Buffalo Bills wide receiver Amari Cooper will miss the team's Week 18 matchup against the New England Patriots for personal reasons.

NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Cooper has been officially ruled out and will not travel with the team to Foxborough on Saturday. The Bills excused the veteran receiver for what Schefter described as "a personal family matter."

The timing of Cooper's absence aligns with Buffalo's preparation for the upcoming Wild Card playoff round. While the Bills haven't officially sidelined their other starters, many expect limited playing time from key players in this meaningless regular-season finale.

Amari Cooper's absence marks the end of his 2024 regular season campaign. The 30-year-old receiver finishes with 547 receiving yards, the lowest total of his decade-long NFL career.

Despite the modest statistics, Cooper's impact on Buffalo's offense extends beyond the numbers. Since joining the Bills via trade, he converted 14 of his 20 receptions into first downs while battling a wrist injury in November.

A week before his unexpected absence, Amari Cooper achieved a significant career milestone. During Buffalo's 40-14 victory over the New York Jets on Dec. 29, he became the 57th player in NFL history to surpass 10,000 career receiving yards.

That same game showcased Cooper's chemistry with quarterback Josh Allen. The pair connected on an impressive 30-yard touchdown, with Cooper praising Allen's aggressive throwing style.

"That's the type of quarterback he is. He's going to give you an opportunity. Every quarterback isn't that way for some reason, but I am grateful for that," Cooper said after the Jets game.

The veteran receiver particularly admired Allen's willingness to attempt difficult throws;

"It's crazy, because a lot of quarterbacks aren't really willing to take those risks. But he has that talent to where he knows exactly where to put the ball, and as a receiver, we love that."

As Buffalo shifts focus to their playoff run, Amari Cooper's situation precedes the final regular season game. His veteran presence will be missed on the sidelines, but the Bills's priority remains supporting their receiver through this family situation.
