Dak Prescott reportedly sat out the Dallas Cowboys' practice session on Friday. While this immediately raised concerns about the quarterback, ESPN NFL Nation reporter Todd Archer provided an update on the three-time Pro Bowler.

Per Archer, Prescott did not practice with his teammates on Friday due to ankle soreness. The signal-caller felt a slight issue with his foot following Dallas' joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday.

Prescott should be given an extended break to recover. He won't feature for the Cowboys on Sunday when they face the Rams in their preseason opener at SoFi Stadium. However, the soreness in his ankle is not considered a serious issue.

Prescott missed his first training session for Dallas on Friday. He was spotted during the offseason with a walking boot on his right ankle. He had fractured the same ankle in Oct. 2020, which ruled him out for the rest of the season. In an interview with Jon Machota of The Athletic last month, Prescott insisted that the boot around his ankle was nothing serious.

“Yeah, I’m great. Honestly, I’m getting older,” Prescott said. “It’s the same ankle, right, that I snapped and had a nasty surgery on four years ago. So, a couple of hard days of training and you get a little sore. And you’re going on a fishing trip and you want to protect it and make sure things don’t get worse."

Dak Prescott has been talking with the Dallas Cowboys about a new deal. He will enter the final year of his four-year, $160 million contract in the 2024 season. Earlier this week, Athlon Sports reported that Prescott might receive a bumper new extension at Dallas. The report claimed that the signal-caller could land a contract with a $70 million average annual value if he displays patience.

The Cowboys drafted Prescott in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He assumed the starting role for the franchise in his rookie season. Last year, Prescott threw for 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns and nine interceptions. The Cowboys clinched the NFC East but then lost to the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round.
