Washington Football Team Announces Name Change to Washington Commanders

Dan Snyder's tenure as the Washington Commanders' owner is ending. In the late hours of November 2, 2022, it was reported that Dan and Tanya Snyder hired BofA Securities to consider potential transactions. The news comes just a few weeks after it was rumored that Snyder threatened his fellow NFL franchise owners in the wake of his dysfunctional time with the Commanders.

The latest news might be the beginning of the end of Snyder's trouble-filled tenure as the head of the Washington Commanders. A tenure that has been regularly mired in controversy.

Dan Snyder's delinquencies as NFL owner

Dan Snyder has been in trouble with the NFL for the longest time. The billionaire's Wikipedia page is filled with more controversies than football-related successes.

Snyder has been courting controversy since he acquired ownership of the Commanders (then the Redskins) in 1999. Since then, he has faced trouble with a toxic workplace culture, a perennial losing record, and a name change from Redskins to Football Team and Commanders.

Snyder most recently got into it with NFL owners when he claimed to have "dirt" on other NFL franchise owners. He instructed his lawyers to hire investigators to gather damaging information on them and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. This might be false. However, where there's smoke, there's most likely fire.

Dan Snyder's outlook as the Washington Commanders' owner

Dan Snyder is in fact considering selling the Washington Commanders. He even got Bank of America to sell the franchise, as announced on Wednesday. As for what the Snyder family stands to gain, the Commanders are worth an estimated $5.6 billion, according to Forbes.

This marks a startling turnaround for the often criticized Snyder, who once said he would never sell the franchise. Even though the signs were there, over the years, he has become less and less involved in the day-to-day running of the team. He left the management of the outfit to his wife, Tanya Snyder, and other prominent members.

While it's still being determined when the sale will happen and who will make the purchase, we will keep you posted.
