The New York Jets and New York Giants will face off on Saturday night to wrap up their 2024 preseason slate. Why isn’t Aaron Rodgers playing tonight?

Aaron Rodgers, 40, suffered a left Achilles tendon injury in his first competitive appearance for the New York Jets last year against the Buffalo Bills. It now appears that the next snap the veteran will take will come exactly one year after his last one, as coach Robert Saleh has confirmed Rodgers won't feature against the Giants on Saturday.

Saleh determined it would be best to keep Rodgers and most starters off the field today. Although this strategy may cause some to scoff, the coach feels that the endless practice snaps Aaron Rodgers and the other first-team players receive are more important than the few they would get in a preseason game.

Saleh doesn't appear concerned about Rodgers' lack of preseason action, despite the quarterback not playing for the Jets at all this preseason.

Saleh reiterated that injury anxiety is not the reason behind his decision to rest his starters.

“I’m honestly not thinking about it from an injury standpoint because you can get hurt at practice, you can get hurt brushing your teeth,” Saleh said. “This has everything to do with whether we are preparing ourselves properly and not just looking at checking the old coaches’ box.”

The Jets' starting quarterback today will be Adrian Martinez, with rookie Andrew Peasley filling in as the backup.
