It's safe to say Washington Commanders fans are more than impressed with Jayden Daniels despite Week 1 of the regular season still two weeks away. Daniels' preseason Week 2 statline made for pretty decent reading with the Heisman-winning quarterback going 10-of-12 for 78 yards and 13 rushing yards.
Commanders fans were naturally itching to see Daniels go up against fellow rookie Drake Maye who, as opposed to Daniels, has not been named the Week 1 starter just yet. However, those fans will have to wait for two long weeks to see Daniels take the league by storm after the franchise confirmed to reporters that their new QB1 will not suit up in their final preseason game against the New England Patriots.

Why isn't Jayden Daniels playing tonight vs Patriots?
Daniels' absence tonight comes as little surprise.
The Commanders have seemingly seen all they needed to from their new franchise quarterback, more than enough to name him the starter when Week 1 rolls around. Holding Daniels out of the game against the Patriots appears to be a measure to keep him safe from a potential injury that could mar his rookie season.
However, fellow rookie Drake Maye will see some action when the Patriots take the field against the Commanders in Landover. Maye will split reps with Jacoby Brissett and potentially Joe Milton tonight. Brissett will start the game, with Maye expected to take the field later on.
