The Kansas City Chiefs are one of the few NFL teams that have chosen to play their key players in the first two preseason games this year, even though most other teams usually rest their starters during this time. One starter, who has featured in their first two preseason games, is tight end Travis Kelce.
The Kansas City Chiefs have one more preseason game left before they take on the Baltimore Ravens in their opening regular season game on Thursday, September 5. However, when the Chiefs play the Chicago Bears today, Kelce and the other key players for Kansas City won't be on the field.
Andy Reid, the head coach of Kansas City, chose to use Kelce and the other starters in the preseason, although with little playing time. The coach has now decided not to use his starters in the preseason finale versus the Bears.
"As far as the Bears rotation goes, I'll probably sit the starters the way it looks right now, and we'll have the other guys get out there and play. We'll simply see how that works in terms of repetition,” Reid told reporters.

Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce must remain fit and sharp for Kansas City to contend for another Super Bowl, therefore the team wouldn't want to take a chance on playing them in a meaningless game.
Reid said that the offense's snap total throughout training camp—which showed that they have taken 50 more than they did last year—was taken into consideration when deciding not to play the starters.
