Derek Carr and the New Orleans Saints had an excellent start to the season, with 91 points in their first two games. However, injuries have ruined their plans, and they now sit with a 5-8 record, two games behind in the NFC South race with four games to go.

Carr himself is having a tough year. His numbers are solid, with 67.7% of completed passes, 15 touchdowns and only five interceptions in an offense where wide receiver talent is a question mark. The team is 5-5 in games where he was a starter.

However, Carr has already missed three games due to an oblique injury suffered back in Week 5. He also left Sunday's game against the New York Giants with an injury. Even if he has not been placed on the injured reserve, the prospect of returning in 2024 is dark for the veteran quarterback.

Will Derek Carr play in Week 15 vs. Commanders?

The quarterback will not feature for the Saints during their Week 15 home game against the Washington Commanders due to the injuries he suffered against the Giants.

Carr tried to jump over two players in a given play, but he fell awkwardly on the ground, first with his left hand and lately with his head. He entered concussion protocol due to the nature of the hit, but he also suffered a significant fracture on his left hand, which is his non-throwing hand.

Head coach Darren Rizzi confirmed that the quarterback remains on the concussion protocol, a five-step process that NFL players need to clear, which is overseen by an independent neurologist. NFL players are now allowed to return to play until they clear the protocol.

During the three games where he wasn't playing, the Saints' quarterback was Spencer Rattler, a rookie fifth-round quarterback out of Oklahoma. He had one touchdown, two interceptions and 59.6% completed passes during the three games he played as a starter.

Following Carr's injury, the Saints signed former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Ben DiNucci to backup Rattler. DiNucci is not expected to start for the team, but a new quarterback isn't a good signal for the veteran's health.
